The North Carolina Grand Court Heroines of Jericho was organized in 1954 by Companion Charles E. Grier of Charlotte, NC. The Charter was applied for on November 29, 1955 from Thad Eure, Secretary of the State of North Carolina and signed by Charles E. Grier, L.E. Monroe, John Carter, Lillian E. McDonnell, Jessie B. McCain, John T. McIver, Connie Gaines, Minnie B. Moore, Estelle Carter and Mattie Haislip. The Charter was filed on December 5, 1995 by J. Lester Wolfe, Clerk of Superior Court in Book 40 Page 92. The first Grand Matron was L. E. Monroe and the first Grand Joshua was Companion Jones. Companion Charles E. Grier worked very hard and did a great deal of traveling to gather the much needed information for this Grand Court. |

The first uniform of the Heroines of Jericho were black skirts, white long sleeve blouses, white stockings, white shoes and gloves. In 1956 Companion Charles E. Grier went to Texas to attend the General Grand Conference, HOJ. It was there he found the proper dress for the Heroines; white dresses, red sash, white gloves, white stockings, white shoes and a crown to be worn on the head. |

In 1969 the Heroines of Jericho met with the Royal Arch Masons in High Point, NC at which time only one companion was permitted to attend the session for the purpose of Election of Officers. Separate meetings continued until June 1982 when Her. Geneva Redding Grand Most Ancient Matron and Companion Aaron Lightener, Grand Excellent High Priest met with the membership for the purpose to once again establish the practice of meeting together. The first such meeting was held in High Point, NC on March 26, 1983. It was the wishes of these two leaders to inspire other Chapters to setup Courts, since a session cannot be held where there is not a Heroine of Jericho Court. |

The General Grand Most Ancient Matron have visited our Grand Session in the persons of Heroine Amanda Newton of Washington, DC and Heroine Ruth Tucker of Pittsburgh, PA. Since that time many more General Grand Most Ancient Matrons have visited our Grand Session along with some Grand Joshuas and other friends. Heroine Ann C. Gore has served as General Conference Grand Most Ancient Matron, a First from North Carolina for two years. Her tenure was very rewarding.
